Meet Jo
Thai Yoga Massage Therapist
My Thai Yoga Massage practice has developed from my 10 years + experience as a yoga teacher. Both practices have their roots in ancient India and acknowledge that we are multi-dimensional beings with physical, energetic, mental/emotional and spiritual layers of self.
In Thai culture, healing practices like Thai massage are deeply intertwined with Buddhist principles of mindfulness, compassion, and loving-kindness. The act of giving a Thai massage is seen as a form of ‘Metta’ (loving-kindness meditation), where the practitioner approaches the massage with an open heart and mindful presence. This is how I try to live my life day-to-day.
I’m fascinated by how our patterns of moving and thinking affect our functional movement. Through Thai Yoga massage we can free up congestion in the body that not only limits our range of movement but also our ability to enjoy inhabiting our bodies without effort or strain.
Thai Yoga Massage combines the techniques of acupressure with assisted yoga stretches to energy lines throughout the body known as ‘Ten Sen’ to create harmony and balance in the body.
It can be used therapeutically to:
· address issues such as back, shoulder and knee pain
· Relieve aching muscles, neck and shoulder tension, headache and menstrual cramps
· Improve circulation
· deeply relax the receiver and help with sleep problems.
During the massage the receiver is fully clothed (in loose fitting clothes) and the massage is carried out on a mattress on the floor.
