Meet Terina

Integrative Psychotherapist

I am an Integrative psychotherapist working with adults and young adults both online and in person. ‘Integrative’ because I take a broadly humanistic approach and combine approaches – with attachment and gestalt theories at the heart of my work – and because I recognise one size most certainly does not ‘fit all.’

I will work with you as a whole person including the context of your life, exploring the background and possible repeated patterns of relating to others, as well as what is causing difficulty for you now.

I work relationally. This means the therapeutic relationship we create together is central to our work and central to the process of awareness, growth and change.  It is important that we can work together and I help by listening and engaging with you in a real way. We are two people agreeing to be in a room together, with the focus on you and your needs, not mine.  My aim is to create a safe, supportive environment in which you can explore what matters to you and where I recognise your strengths, insights and capacity to confront difficulty and solve problems for yourself- with me alongside you as a compassionate and supportive ally.

I recognise that humour can have a place in therapy -if it comes up naturally, not forced – and can play a vital role in healing. It really is ok to laugh together.

I have a background of working in the arts as a community drama practitioner before becoming a psychotherapist. I have over 30 years’ experience of working with adults and young people from diverse communities in a wide range of contexts including schools, NHS, Higher education, probation centres.  This broad range gives me the breadth and depth of experience to help with many life issues.

Therapy sessions will involve mainly talking with one another. Sometimes we may work together more creatively – using objects, photographs, our imagination and with awareness of the body/physicality.

I currently run a private practice in South Birmingham from a purpose-built counselling room. I am working towards an Adoption Certificate (with Barnardo’s) which will enable me to work competently with adults involved in/impacted by the adoption process.
